Fashion At The Reunion

Last year the problem was people wearing shirts as dresses. This year it was different. THIS year, it looks like many of the girls decided to shop at the same store where the designers only sew half an outfit and then sell it as fashion.

Ladies, I saw BUTTCHEEKS and it was not cool. Thankfully, the good people at Amebor captured one perfect example of this ridiculous.

I am sure some of you will say she isn't Nigerian. Just like the girl that mistook underwear for shorts at the hotel and was parading around in a tight t-shirt and boy-shorts when there was no swimming pool in sight.

Somebody tell this female that she is wearing a TANK TOP for the love of God.

This piece of fashion was at the party at C-PAC. Probably one of the ghetto-est (is that a word?) clubs that they could have chosen for the reunion. I don't know why ANYBODY would want to expose that much skin in such a location.

The thing is, when I show these pictures (that I did not take) somebody is going to accuse me of being a hater. Its not that I am "hating", it is that you are assaulting my eyes!

I think these girls are auditioning to become dancers for Afrocandy? Who knows.

I feel bad for the Marriott

The Marriott hotel had a sports bar, Champions, that was basically the only place to get food during a certain part of the day. The prices were typical hotel prices and the menu clearly had the prices listed. So, if you ordered, you knew what you were getting into. During the reunion, a certain group of Nigerians decided to go to Champions to order food. Instead of them to cut their cloth (eat their food) according to their wallet, one of them decided to be a big baller and pay for everybody. They took a seat, asked for a menu, and then Mr. Baller said he would pay for the meal up to a certain limit (a few hundred dollars).

So, this group of people sat down to eat, enjoying their food and when everybody was done, the bill was a few dollars over Mr. Baller's limit. Mr. Baller paid his part, and the rest (maybe $20?) was supposed to be covered by the remaining people at the table. Mr. Baller left with a few people while the rest stayed behind.

While the remaining people sat there, another set of people joined them. Mind you, the bill at the time was only about $20. But, this 2nd group of people joined the table and then they all ordered a couple of hundred dollars more worth of food. Remember, Mr. Baller had already paid his part and left. Apparently, the newcomers to the table were under the assumption that Mr. Baller was paying for everybody and anybody who sat at the table.

So when the bill came, yawa!, everybody started looking for Mr. Baller. The hotel staff were basically preventing anybody from leaving the bar. Of course you know white people they don't play. They probably thought this was some sort of 419 thing that Nigerians were trying to pull on them and they even went to find Mr. Baller to dragged him back to the bar. Can you imagine, the rest of us walking past the lobby and hearing this big commotion with Nigerians arguing back and forth. They had to call security, the manager had to come and sort everything out. So stupid. I guess everybody had to split the bill in the end. If you know who these people are, it would be very helpful. Were you loitering around in the lobby area on Sunday afternoon and did you hear a commotion? Lol.

I don't understand Nigerian guys. You came to the reunion to MOOCH off of another person? How do you expect to get any action when you can't even feed yourself?

You know the hotel will probably NEVER allow Nigerians there again.

I'm baaack

For those of you wondering how the reunion went, it was okay. As in, okay.

One thing that cracked me up is the fact that I saw so many of the people that were put on blast on this blog last year.  For instance a certain pair of sisters from the Midwest were in appearance complete with high heels and tight clothing. In fact they were one of the first people I saw when I got to the hotel. Also, our favorite NY photographer was always around as well. I am sure you know who I am talking about. Its funny because I don't know any of these people and I have never spoken to them, but thanks to this blog I couldn't help but laugh a little when I saw them.

Also, all of you will be happy to know that in typical Nigerian fashion NOTHING started on time. It was very annoying. As in, these human beings have not learned anything from last year. I know that somebody will comment and say that we should all be happy that they organized it, and I am. I am very happy. BUT, if they want to do this why can't they do it in an organized fashion? So we should all be so grateful that we ignore the lateness and disorganization? Abeg!

On Friday, there was a panel. This was a change from last year when the panel was held during the weekend and Mr. Dimeji Bankole pissed off everyone. This year's panel was less dramatic. But, don't think that means that the politics stayed out of the reunion. Did all of you know that Dele Momodu of Ovation Magazine is running for the Nigerian presidency in 2011?!

Throughout the reunion I saw people wearing "Support Dele" t-shirts and I thought it was some sort of fund-raising effort for some sick child or something. But, on Sunday during the concert/show, Basketmouth let it slip that Mr. Momodu is running. Then--even though they had promised not to get political--during Sunday's concert/show the president of NRC actually invited Dele Momodu on stage to talk about his run for the presidency. Mr. Momodu started talking a little trash about Babangida and people started yelling at him. Things got a bit heated when the Babangida supporters started complaining about Dele's talk.

I thought nobody wanted IBB back? Guess I was wrong. Ohh and there was a comedian who got his mic cut off because he cursed too much when he was talking and the sound engineers had to cut him off because they said the show was a "family" show. I still don't understand why people bring children to the reunion.

But I am getting ahead of myself. I will start with Friday's events and work my way to Sunday starting with my next post.

You know how this works. Send your gist, pictures, and threats to naijareuniongist@gmail.com. I am very interested to learn what the rest of you experienced. Especially if this was your first time at the reunion.

By the way, you will be happy to know that we have learned the next reunion will be in Miami. I think I may go for that one because it is a good reason to go to Miami with discounted airfare and hotel rates. But we shall see.

I'll be back with more soon.

Registering For The Reunion

I thought I mis-read the registration info the other day. Turns out I am not the only confused person.

FIRST, I was annoyed that early bird registration (i.e. $75 registration) ended on May 5th. I thought it was not meant to end until mid-May? Like typical business people they decided to change the dates anyway to make more money. Maybe so many people were registering early that NRC tried to capitalize on this by cutting off the early registration date and making people pay more. Na wah oh!

But, this morning, I checked the two sites again and to my surprise I saw two different dates. What is going on?

On the NRC Online website, (white background) it says Regular Registration (i.e. $90) registration ends May 30th.

But on the official reunion website the calendar still says regular registration ends June 25th.

Which one is it? If you are planning to attend and will be registering abeg do it quickly! Before they change the dates and you are forced to pay the $120 fee for onsite registration.

The Details

Jeje-ly information about the reunion is being released by NRC. Apparently the hotel is Long Island. That sounds fun.

Registration fees are $75 until May then it goes up. See the website for more details. While I was browsing the NRC website to get information about the reunion, I found this "news" that was posted last year. Around the time so many of you were on this very blog. I guess certain people got upset after this blog was put up last year? Na wah oh!! Could it be that I annoyed the NRC people? They should be happy! Am I not drumming up publicity for them and increasing ticket sales? See me see trouble oh!

Sha, the blog shall go on. Afterall it is possible they were not referring to NRG! (I have a feeling they were though):

Hmm! Anyway sha, this is not Nigeria oh! We are in America and the last time I checked everyone has a right to free speech and to exchange information and ideas.

Anyway I have been hearing that there are PLENTY of people coming to this reunion. I will assume that this is true. Afterall if only the East coast Nigerians show up it will be FUN! Everyone go and get your tickets!

While getting your tickets, please enjoy this "musical piece of art" by Afrocandy. Since she is in the NY area perhaps she can make an appearance at the reunion? This is somebody's mother oh!

When I first saw this video I was beyond speechless.
