I'm baaack

For those of you wondering how the reunion went, it was okay. As in, okay.

One thing that cracked me up is the fact that I saw so many of the people that were put on blast on this blog last year.  For instance a certain pair of sisters from the Midwest were in appearance complete with high heels and tight clothing. In fact they were one of the first people I saw when I got to the hotel. Also, our favorite NY photographer was always around as well. I am sure you know who I am talking about. Its funny because I don't know any of these people and I have never spoken to them, but thanks to this blog I couldn't help but laugh a little when I saw them.

Also, all of you will be happy to know that in typical Nigerian fashion NOTHING started on time. It was very annoying. As in, these human beings have not learned anything from last year. I know that somebody will comment and say that we should all be happy that they organized it, and I am. I am very happy. BUT, if they want to do this why can't they do it in an organized fashion? So we should all be so grateful that we ignore the lateness and disorganization? Abeg!

On Friday, there was a panel. This was a change from last year when the panel was held during the weekend and Mr. Dimeji Bankole pissed off everyone. This year's panel was less dramatic. But, don't think that means that the politics stayed out of the reunion. Did all of you know that Dele Momodu of Ovation Magazine is running for the Nigerian presidency in 2011?!

Throughout the reunion I saw people wearing "Support Dele" t-shirts and I thought it was some sort of fund-raising effort for some sick child or something. But, on Sunday during the concert/show, Basketmouth let it slip that Mr. Momodu is running. Then--even though they had promised not to get political--during Sunday's concert/show the president of NRC actually invited Dele Momodu on stage to talk about his run for the presidency. Mr. Momodu started talking a little trash about Babangida and people started yelling at him. Things got a bit heated when the Babangida supporters started complaining about Dele's talk.

I thought nobody wanted IBB back? Guess I was wrong. Ohh and there was a comedian who got his mic cut off because he cursed too much when he was talking and the sound engineers had to cut him off because they said the show was a "family" show. I still don't understand why people bring children to the reunion.

But I am getting ahead of myself. I will start with Friday's events and work my way to Sunday starting with my next post.

You know how this works. Send your gist, pictures, and threats to naijareuniongist@gmail.com. I am very interested to learn what the rest of you experienced. Especially if this was your first time at the reunion.

By the way, you will be happy to know that we have learned the next reunion will be in Miami. I think I may go for that one because it is a good reason to go to Miami with discounted airfare and hotel rates. But we shall see.

I'll be back with more soon.
